We have one of these. We love it. We wanted to buy one for our son’s wedding. Cook’s Wares sent us the wrong waffler. We sent it back. They’re trying to find what we ordered — which apparently isn’t made anymore. It’s been at least two weeks and we haven’t heard anything yet. They have our money, but we have nothing so far!

I purchased this waffle maker to replace a cheap single maker. I mistakenly thought that by buying a more expensive model I would get better waffles. It only cooks on one side and no matter which recipe I use they’re flat. I wish I could return this item, but I waited too long thinking I could find the right recipe. We use to have waffles every Sunday, we’ve switched pancakes.

As others have said, this waffle iron clearly uses a round heating element in a square iron. Of course that leads to uneven cooking where the center gets overdone, while the edges are just barely cooked.

I would not have expected that sort of compromise for such an expensive product.

I still have not found a suitable replacement waffle iron for my old GE and Sunbeam units which worked great for many years before they died.

Ingrediants
wheat flour : 200g
bicarbonate of soda : half teaspoonful
salt : one third teaspoonful
sugar : two tablespoonful
water : proper quantity(Please select by your sense of taste)

1. stir all Ingrediants thoroughly
2. heat the Taiyaki-ki with both sides.(But don’t heat to intense heat)
3. spread oil with Taiyaki-ki and pour mixed ingrediants into Taiyaki-ki.
4. put Azuki beanes on mixed ingrediants(Taiyaki-ki)
5. pour mixed ingrediants again on Azuki.(but a small quantity)
6. close Taiyaki-ki and heat both sides.(you turn Taiyaki-ki over at intervals)
7.. finish and enjoy the Taiyaki……..

After I recvd this one, I asked my Korean friends to read the instruction for me. I am quite sure any items to be sold in the US, one needs to have instruction in English. This is not the case. Anyway, the instruction was to tell you to be careful in handling this pan – they will be come very hot during cooking.

I used waffle mix and put some red bean paste (Oriental store) as fillings and make some fish cake, very cute. I also used raspberry and blueberry as alternatives. I am going to let my imagination juice flow and seek for some other fillings. (Chestnut paste, sesame paste, berries w/marmalade, custard cream……..) Um….. they are so yum yum.

I’d recommend using waffle mix rather than pancake mix – waffle mix gives you a much lighter and fluffier texture. However, if you’d like to have a fish with substance (smile), use pancake mix – the texture is much more heavy. Just like a pancake fish and fillings cannot be easily put into the fish.

Do not put the fish maker on the BBQ, a regular stove top will do the job. Always heat up the maker first for a few minutes and spray with some PAM or spread a bit of butter inside – it prevents stickniess. Turn down the temperature to medium and pour some thin batter to coat the fish maker pan (one side only). Do not over fill. Put your fillings carefully into the center of the fish – they will sink into the batter or you can use a small spoon to help them sink. Pour in more batter to cover the fillings. Close it tight and turn it around to warm the other side. Monitor the temperature as it burns easily.

After 2-3 minutes – voila – here comes 2 lovely fish with yummy fillings splashing onto your table. I make them on the weekends and my friends just love them. They are more popular than the English tea that I usually prepare.

The little fish cake reminds me of my childhood when I spent my early life in Asia. They have so many types of interesting snacks on the streetside!

I live in Japan and my kids love these ‘cookies’. The item did seem a little flimsy because the hinges are loose; but as I’ve used it I understand now that it has to be that way to accommodate the rising batter that is cooking inside. There are no directions in English on the box, but a Korean friend of mine translated for me, and everything is as you would expect (not too high of heat, don’t heat the handle, don’t let children use it, etc.) All in all, it is exactly what I paid for and it works great!

The taiyaki pan I received was similar to, but not the same as the pan pictured. The product is, essentially, the same- it looks identical and seems to be of good quality. It seems, however, to be a Korean product- the box and directions are in Korean, not Japanese. A sticker with english instructions was placed on the back. Although I am not enraged by the difference, the seller should state that the product is not, in fact, of Japanese make as the name and seller description would imply.
